Aging in An Ageless Industry

"You can't help getting older, but you don't have to get old."  - George Burns

Okay, I'm about to do a big NO-NO in the Entertainment Industry.  Much to my agents chagrin ..  oh, wait, I don't have one right now ... anyway...  I proudly admit that March 4th is my Birthday.  And for those with whom I share this date including:  Patricia Heaton, Landon Donovan, Catherine O'Hara and Jason Newsted --  I say rejoice!  It's the only date that is a sentence (March Fourth) and it sure beats the alternative, which is death!

"Since people are going to be living longer and getting older, they'll just have to learn how to be babies longer." - Andy Warhol

Fuck yeah, Andy Warhol! See Hollywood, THAT is the attitude we need to take.  Note I said attitude and NOT appearance.  I'm four decades in and I'll be damned if I'm getting botox or a lift or a tuck or even a dye job.  But, I'm a guy so I can make that statement.  Hell, Sean Connery was voted People's Sexiest Man Alive in 1989 when he was pushing 60.  Of course, he was James Bond.  And I think it's a load of bullshit that an actress is consider persona non grata once they start pushing age 40 (if not before).  Hey... you wanna know who's over that age? Rachael Weisz, Elizabeth Hurley, Halle Berry and Jennifer Aniston -- just to name a few.  These ladies and the host of others at or above that age are three things - Talented, Sexy, and worthy of any role.  Period.

"I'm kind of comfortable with getting older because it's better than the other option, which is being dead. So I'll take getting older."  - George Clooney

Yup, me too George.  And that brings me to another important point on age.  Just because I haven't had a chance to thank the Academy just yet, does NOT mean my career and my dreams have been put out to pasture.  Just consider the impressive list of those who "made it" after age 40.  They include:  Jane Lynch, Lucille Ball,  John Mahoney, and Samuel L. Jackson (mutha fucka)! I'm more comfortable in my skin now than I ever was in my 20s or 30s.  It's true, with age comes wisdom.  And I'm wise enough to know how to use all the shit I've learned and experienced.  So.. bring it on Birthday!  And, God willing, I'll see you again this time next year.  - MO
