"The only safe thing is to take a chance." - Mike Nichols
I saw a stat over the weekend that if you bet $100 in Vegas that the L.A. Lakers would beat the Golden State Warriors, Nate Diaz would get the submission on Connor McGregor, and Miesha Tate would choke out Holly Holm, you'd pocked more than $31,000. So, just like they say in "Dumb and Dumber" -- So You're saying there's a chance! Yep, long shots can happen! And there is NOTHING written, preordained or chiseled in stone that says YOU can't make it happen either! And THAT should be motivation enough to do (or try) anything.
"There are people who are able to plan their career, their future, but I've never had any talent for that. I just do things and hope for the best. Say yes, take a chance, and sometimes it's terrific and sometimes it's not." - Christopher Walken
And it turns out, all HE needed was more cowbell. So, take your best shot. And that's especially true if you aspire to act, sing or perform. Pull a Nike.. and Just Do It. But, be warned, you may never make one cent from it or ever see your "name in lights." And you know what? That's okay. If it's in your heart, do it. Don't do it to cash in on it (hear that all your reality TV fame whores?!) Do it for the love of it and if the fickle beast that is "fame" finds you, great. If not... it doesn't mean you're a failure.
"For the record, if you're in this room, you've caught the brass ring. You get to do what you've always dreamed to do and be celebrated for it, and it ain't losing." - George Clooney's DeMille Award Acceptance Speech
I have that printed out and hung in my office. And I followed it with the hashtag #GetInTheRoom. Seems a simple enough mantra. But with it comes a reminder - that room is The Golden Globes. And not everyone in the entertainment business gets there. It's just like Julia Robert's great monologue from "Notting Hill." She tells Hugh Grant that the whole fame thing isn't real. And she's right. It's a dream. For some, it will only ever be that. But if that's your dream... keep dreaming it. Why? Because, as we saw this weekend, long shots can pay off and you can still shock the world. - MO
