See... It Really Is NOT Over Until It's Over

"Focus on the journey, not the destination. Joy is found not in finishing an activity but in doing it." -  Greg Anderson

I'll admit.. I'm not 100% sure who this Greg Anderson is... but he's right on with that quote.  Well, of course, we need to talk about the Uh-Maz-Ing finish to the NCCA Men's Basketball Championship game.  I mean, holy shit, what a shot!  A buzzer beating 3-pointer to not only win the game but the whole shebang!  Wow! Congrats to Villanova.  And, it just goes to show, like Costner's Elliot Ness said in "The Untouchables," you never stop fighting 'til the fight is done.  That applies to hoops, acting... and life.

"Finishing races is important, but racing is more important." -  Dale Earnhardt

I think what the late, great Intimidator was saying is - be sure what you're doing is as locked in as WHY you're doing it.  This always gets me thinking about acting.  How shitty is it when you can tell someone is "mailing it in?'  Knowing there are scores of folks just as talented who would kill to be where that actor is...  and he or she could give a shit and just does enough.  If you're over it... move the fuck on.  There are others who want to share our craft, our talent, and, above all, our passion for acting.  Here's your check. There's the door.  Bye Felicia.

"Finishing second in the Olympics gets you silver. Finishing second in politics gets you oblivion." - Richard M. Nixon

Second sucks.  It does.  No one wants to be told, "You were our second choice."  It's like a hockey silver medal in the Olympics.  You get THAT medal for losing the Gold Medal game.  I feel for the Carolina Tar Heels.  To play that hard and do that well, only to lose that way... just, well, blows.  But things like that do build character.  I'm not going to wax all touchy-feely, but it's true.  Didn't get cast? Nail the next audition.  Get passed over for a job?  Excel at the position you DO get.  Fall in a big game?  Work harder to get back and win the next time.  Do NOT forget to keep score and do NOT give everyone a trophy.  Do NOT say it's damaging to one's self-esteem.  Pressure produces diamonds.  Problems lead to solutions.  But bullshit excuses produce whiny, annoying, pathetic losers.  You can't win 'em all.  You just can't.  But celebrate when you do win... and work that much harder when you don't. - MO
