"It's true. All of it. The Dark Side, the Jedi. They're Real." - Han Solo, The Force Awakens
As of this writing, I have watched the teaser trailer for "Rogue One: A Star War Story" half a dozen times. I know, I've got issues. BUT... I was raised on Star Wars. I was two when the film now called "A New Hope" hit theatres. I played with the action figures and pretended it was an Ewok in my parent's back yard. So, I come by my Jedi geek status honestly. And THAT is why I'm so jazzed about this newest foray into the world of a galaxy far, far away.
"Your eyes can deceive you; don't trust them." - Obi-Wan Kenobi, A New Hope
But Ol' Ben didn't have a chance to see this new trailer. And it looks like it picked up the baton from "The Force Awakens." No, not in the story line. That comes with Episode 8 in December of next year. I'm talking about the continued use of practical effects and smarter casting. (See Jar Jar Binks for examples of the dark side of each) AND... I gotta say, I'm loving the stronger female leads. Felicity Jones' Jyn Erso looks like she'll be every bit the badass as Daisy Ridley's Rey. And I truly believe credit for that goes to Carrie Fisher. Sure, she gets all the hype for that metal Hutt bikini. But Leia's a badass, too. Don't believe me? Just ask that poor Stormtrooper who walked up on she and Solo at the rear entrance of the Endor Shield Generator station in "Return of the Jedi." (Hey, I told you I was a Star Wars geek!)
"Someone has to save our skins. Into the garbare chute, fly boy." - Princess Leia, A New Hope
See... I told ya so. I also appreciate "Rogue One" for another reason. It keeps fanning the Star Wars flames. How many new-found fans looked dejected after hearing Episode Eight won't be released until December 2017? By the way, it's currently in production at Pinewood Studios in England. But this serves as that fix (and no doubt fodder for new toys et al) in the interim. This became crystal clear to me when I showed my wife the teaser trailer. She, who had never seen ONE Star Wars movie prior to our marathon Episode 4, 5 and 6 viewing ahead of seeing "The Force Awakens," said "Oh I can't wait for that!" Yep, right there with you, babe. And so long as Lucasfilm, Disney and all the key players involved keep this type of mojo going, I think it's safe to say the Force will be with them.... Always. - MO
