"Just play. Have fun. Enjoy the game." - Michael Jordan
Oh, M.J. You maybe the NBA's G.O.A.T., but it seems you don't know much when it comes to watching the Summer Olympic games. What's that you say? His Airness wrong? Well, yeah. I mean, he is according to NBC Olympics Chief Marketing Officer John Miller. Oh, you didn't hear? Well.. allow me to enlighten you. Mister Miller said:
"The people who watch the Olympics are not particularly sports fans. More Women watch the Games than men, and for the women, they're less interested in the result and more intersted in the journey."
Clearly, Mister Miller has never been to or watched ANY sporting event, EVER. The journey can only be judged by THE RESULT - you dick. And, some of the most passionate sports fans I know are women - my wife (a Green Bay Packers shareholder) ranks tops among them. In fact, I would argue that a sports disagreement between two women is just as involved and passionate as that of most men.
"Sports are a microcosm of society." - Billie Jean King
Not interestest in the results, eh? Tell THAT to Billie Jean King. Was the run of the U.S Women's Soccer team just about Brandi Chastain's goal... or about the performance of that team as a whole? Serena Willams? Just show me the final score... 'cause I have no interest in watching her kick ass 24-7 on the tennis court. Right? Um, no. Try telling Ronda Rousey her results don't matter. She'd beat the shit out of you. No, literally I believe she would just haul off and deck you. Are you kidding me, John? Aren't we decades past this sexism in sports shit?
"The crowd makes the ball game." - Ty Cobb
If the Summer Olympics weren't a four-year wait and our fervor for cheering on the good ol' US of A wasn't so strong, I believe NBC would be taking it in the pants for Miller's lame-brained quip. But, I can honestly say I haven't watched must of the Rio games because of all the crap (literally and figuratively) coming out of Brazil over safety, security and facilities. But I can say this - Go USA. Go ladies in sports. And Go EVERY female sports fan. Cheer loud and cheer proud. And enjoy your favorite player or teams' journey and result. That's the best way to emphatically make NBC's Johnny boy eat a bag of dicks. -MO
